SUMMARY:Rose City Wind Symphony - An American Question: Who Gets to Be Heard? Concert
DESCRIPTION:An American Question: Who Gets to Be Heard?\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSunday\, April 26 @ 3:00 pm\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPatricia Reser Center for the Arts\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Rose City Pride Bands presents “An American Question: Who Gets to Be Heard?”\, a joint wind band concert featuring the Rose City Symphonic Band and the Rose City Wind Symphony. This concert explores America as a living question rather than a fixed identity. Through voices both celebrated and marginalized\, the music asks who has been heard\, who has been silenced\, and how sound itself becomes an act of belonging.

SUMMARY:Rose City Wind Symphony - Echoes of Resistance Concert
DESCRIPTION:Rose City Wind Symphony Presents:\n“Echoes of Resistance: A Concert of Memory\, Defiance\, and Hope”\nSaturday\, November 1 @ 7:00 pm\nKaul Auditorium\, Reed Campus\nIn an era of rising authoritarianism\, cultural censorship\, and social unrest\, Echoes of Resistance gives voice to those who refuse to be silenced. This concert is a declaration: that music can speak truth\, carry memory\, and inspire action when words alone are not enough. \nThrough works by living composers\, underrepresented voices\, and artists who wrote under political pressure or persecution\, this program explores resistance in its many forms—joyful and solemn\, public and personal. From the layered chaos of David Del Tredici’s In Wartime to the quiet mourning of Steve Danyew’s Into the Silent Land\, and the mythic defiance of Star Wars\, each piece reminds us that sound is not neutral—it is power. \nDr. Joseph Accuadri-Gilliam\nArtistic Director\nRose City Wind Symphony \nRose City Pride Bands\nwww.rosecitypride.com

Commissioned by NBC as the first opera written for television\, Amahl and the Night Visitors debuted on December 24\, 1951 becoming the first network television Christmas special to become an annual tradition. Composer Gian Carlo Menotti drew inspiration for the opera from Hieronymus Bosch’s The Adoration of the Magi\, which hangs in the Metropolitan Museum of Art\, and from his childhood in Italy where gifts were brought at Christmas by the Three Kings instead of Santa Claus. \nFeaturing outstanding principal vocalists in collaboration with the Southland Symphony Orchestra\, this live\, in-person performance will showcase some of the finest singers in Southern California. Their great vocal skill and dramatic ability and deeply immerse the audience in the action of the story. \nTickets for this special production: VIP/Premium $20 (includes preferred seating\, treat bags\, doorprize entry) General Admission $10 (includes admission\, wine tasting at the after-concert reception\, and doorprize entry). Children under 12 are free. We recommend purchasing tickets in advance. (It would completely disrupt the story!) So – You will receive your door prize tickets with admission\, and the doorprizes will be awarded at the end of the performance\, AND – there will be a reception following the show! \nA note about seating – Seating in this historic church is in pews. The “VIP/Premium” seating is indicated by Red Ribbons on the reserved pews. \nHandicap Access – Ramp available at rear of building (adjacent to parking lot on F Street) \nIf you want to join the chorus – message us. SUMMARY:University of Redlands Opera - Hansel and Gretel #3
DESCRIPTION:Glenn Wallichs Theatre\, United States\, 92373\n\n\n\n\n\nFri 2nd February 2024 – Sat 3rd February 2024 \n\n\n\nJoin us for a weekend of performances of “Hansel & Gretel”\, an opera composed by Engelbert Humperdinck\, directed by Cindy Snyder & Malcolm Swan. \nPremiere: Weimar\, Court Theater\, 1893. Originally conceived as a small-scale vocal entertainment for children\, Hansel and Gretel resonates with both adults and children\, and has become one of the most successful fairy-tale operas ever created. The composer\, Engelbert Humperdinck\, was a protégé of Richard Wagner’s\, and the opera’s score is flavored with the sophisticated musical lessons he learned from his idol while maintaining a charm and a light touch that were entirely Humperdinck’s own. The opera acknowledges the darker features present in the Brothers Grimm version of the familiar folk tale yet presents them within a frame of grace and humor. The School of Performing Arts production features exciting visuals\, a full orchestra\, and the wonderful voices of talented U of R students! \nSynopsis: Once upon a time a poor broom maker and his wife lived in a small cottage in the mountains with their son\, Hansel\, and their daughter\, Gretel. When our story begins\, Hansel and Gretel’s parents have traveled to a neighboring village to sell brooms\, leaving the children at home to do their chores. But work is tiresome\, and soon Hansel and Gretel begin dancing to fill the time\, and to take their minds off of their hungry stomachs. Suddenly\, Hansel and Gretel’s mother returns home weary from her long trip\, and scolds the children for playing instead of doing their chores. In her frustration\, she sends her children out into the woods to gather strawberries for their super.\nWhile in the woods\, Hansel and Gretel meet a witch who is planning to shove the children into her oven and bake them into gingerbread. The witch tells Gretel to look in the oven to see if the gingerbread is ready\, but Gretel pretends not to understand\, and when the witch tries to show Gretel how it’s done\, Hansel and Gretel quickly shove the witch into the oven\, close the door\, and celebrate their victory.\nSuddenly we see Hansel and Gretel’s parents\, who have been searching for their children all night. As they all reunite\, they sing of how the witch was caught in her own lair\, and give thanks for everyone’s safe return. \nHealth & AccessibilityIn alignment with the State of California\, which has removed mask and vaccine requirements for indoor events\, The School of Performing Arts will not require patrons to provide proof of vaccination or to wear masks while attending shows or events in our venues. However\, we still strongly recommend mask-wearing while in the theatre. If you are feeling sick or exhibiting any COVID-19-like symptoms\, or if you have been exposed to COVID-19 within five days of attending your performance\, we recommend you stay home.\nFor accessibility or disability needs please contact: theatreanddance@redlands.edu or call: (909)748-8728 \nRefunds\nRefunds will be given on a case-by-case basis. Booking fee will NOT be refunded. Please fill out inquiry form located through your ticket email to request.

SUMMARY:University of Redlands Opera - Hansel and Gretel #1
